RemoteBox is open-source, GUI-based VirtualBox remote-management software written in Perl. Using GTK2-based GUI, RemoteBox allows users to manage a headless VirtualBox server to create and manage guest virtual machines (VMs) remotely. RemoteBox communicates with a remote headless VirtualBox installation via SOAP APIs of the built-in web server of VirtualBox (vboxwebsrv). RemoteBox can set up SSL-enabled secure communication with VirtualBox web service, and supports all native administration functionality of VirtualBox, including creating/removing, configuring, and starting/stopping VMs. For remote access to a guest VM’s display, RemoteBox relies on an external RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) client such as rdesktop or XFreeRDP to connect to the RDP server of VirtualBox.
